Joel Aguilera is a Houston native with an MFA from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and a BFA in Dance from the University of Houston. A seasoned performer, Aguilera has toured nationally and internationally, showcasing his work in countries such as Albania, Costa Rica, and Montenegro. His professional experience includes appearances in major entertainment events alongside artists such as John Legend, Pitbull, Lil’ Wayne, and Snoop Dogg, as well as features with NBC and international projects in Paris.
Aguilera is the Founder and Artistic Director of Mezclada Dance Company, a dynamic collective that fuses Breaking, Modern dance, and Latin culture. His choreography has been presented in cities including Houston, New York, Milwaukee, and St. Louis, and featured in festivals such as Barnstorm Dance Fest, Emerging Choreographers Showcase, 16th Annual Celebration of Dance, Mind The Gap 8.0 & 13.0, and the Texas Latino/a/x Contemporary Dance Festival.
In addition to his choreographic work, Aguilera is an Olympic breaking coach and a dedicated educator, currently teaching at the University of Houston and multiple studios across the Greater Houston area, where he continues to mentor and inspire the next generation of movers.
