SHIFTING ROOTS – Alegado Movement Language (AML) is the synthesis of the principles of the José Limón Technique and the movement qualities and characteristics developing from those concepts. After many years of evolution, Shifting Roots has grown into a self-sustaining movement language that continues to carry the DNA of the José Limón philosophy.
Gravity, fall, recovery, and suspension of movement are inherent in AML, yet hand and arm gestures distinguish it from the Limón technique. These hand and arm gestures create infinite reactions from the body structure as it moves through space. Participants experience this connection as well as how to discover the very important transitions of weight. Coordination, rhythm, focus and, above all, authenticity in movement are some of the goals.
A mixed blend of classical modern techniques focusing on strength and sequential moment execution.

Latin Jazz is a fun, energetic fusion dance form for everyone! Sure to get you pumped and sweaty, this class combines Latin social dances such as salsa, cumbia, samba, and cha-cha (think of it as a sampler) with jazz dance steps to create a hybrid form. We’ll start the class in a circle to get to know each other and build community, integral to social dances! Throughout the class, we’ll learn about where these dances come from and the historical context. We’ll then break down essential Jazz and Latin social dance steps and rhythms and combine them to create a dance to pop music –think of Latin Music Video. Experience in Latin dance is not necessary, and anything can be modified to fit the needs of the participants.

In class, I encourage authentic, and spontaneous movement with personal interpretation. My classes focus on self-expression, awareness of body language, and efficient use of body weight and alignment. I like to bridge the worlds of commercial and concert dance and explore how a dancer can develop a “personal brand” within performance. Urging the dancer to develop an ownership of personal style. “What do you want to be known for and how can you show it within your artistry?” Classes include a warm-up, an across-the-floor section, and conclude in a self-expressive, combination.

My movement style is an amalgamation of my experience growing up with the Los Angeles commercial dance influence and my professional concert dance training and career. I value approaching movement from an anatomically sound perspective to give participants efficient and safe ways to navigate their body's potential. I strive to create a space where artists can explore their personal relationships with movement quality, musicality, and artistic approaches while having fun!

Floorwork changes the body´s relationship with gravity , and requires dancers to navigate between higher and lower levels(going in and out of the floor) as well as certain more athletic power moves . It allows dancers to increase their versatility and movement efficiency. Relating floorwork to more technical movement may help students understand how to transition to the ground.
The class utilizes simple movement patterns that involve breathing, speed and the release of energy throughout the body in order to activate the relationship between the center and the joints, moving in and out of the ground more efficiently by maintaining a centered state.
