Allen LaPoint holds an MFA in Dance from Texas Woman’s University and a BFA in Dance from the University of Houston. LaPoint has trained in Modern, Jazz, African, Post-Modern, Graham, Ballet, and Colorguard while focusing the most on Horton technique. LaPoint has danced under the direction of multiple choreographers including Karen Stokes, Sarah Gamblin, Teresa Chapman, Becky Valls, Toni Valle, Tracie Jackson, and Janie Yao. LaPoint was also a company member with Suchu Dance under the Direction of Jennifer Wood. In the past, he has presented original works at numerous places including Barnstorm Dance Festival, Mind the Gap, Texas Woman’s University and the University of Houston. As an educator, LaPoint is an adjunct faculty member Dallas College and a teaching artist at Withers Elementary in Dallas, Texas. Currently, LaPoint is co-writing a dance textbook on Queer Dance from a global perspective.
